"We came here for a family lunch/dinner where the three of us put two places in a hat and drew, this was one of mine and it won. Glad it did, it was great and all three of us loved it. You come in and walk to the counter, the menu us huge and on the wall. We we came in there was only one group ahead of us but people were at about half the tables and a line formed behind us and never really stopped, this is a popular place. You make your order, they take a name and call that name from a pick up window where you go get your food. Simple and while no alcohol they have a ton of drink options from a local business! M got the chicken tenders with candied yams and fried Okra. I don't eat Okra but Shana and M both said it was fantastic and the yams were so good. Shana got shrimp, waffle fries, and Red beans and Rice and I will let her talk about her part here. SHANA SAYS: Our family (me, husband, grown kid) had a rare Saturday afternoon off together and wanted to have a fun and delicious family dinner out! It can be hard for us to find a place that serves food all three of us want. Hubby chose Whip My Soul and we are so grateful he did! Whip My Soul has a fun, laid-back, family atmosphere. No cocktail menu, but a LOT of delicious non-alcoholic beverages (local selection, too!). The menu is big enough to offer variety, but not so big as to be intimidating. To say the portions are generous is to be underselling it! And the quality is just TOP-NOTCH. We each got a dinner platter (one meat + two sides), and we got a variety so we could try off each other's. Hubby got fried catfish with hushpuppies and fries. I got shrimp with red beans & rice and fries. Kid got chicken tenders with candied yams and fried okra. Fried okra was the best I've ever had in my entire life, hands down. Same with the yams. Red beans & rice (not vegetarian, FYI) was the best I've had outside of Memphis. So good! Catfish was flaky perfection. Honestly, everything here is delicious. The staff wear tee-shirts that say "Y'all ain't ready" and they're right! We weren't! I got the catfish, hush puppies, and waffle fries. The catfish was so good and the even Shana liked the hush puppies and she normally dislikes them a lot. The fries were good but overall the weakest thing but still with what it is competting with that is no small thing. The service was fast and friendly, the gentleman at the counter answering all our questions. One small thing was there was only one trashcan and it was so full we had trouble getting our trash in it. Minor issue but heads up. We will be back. Everything was amazing."

"Very cute place. It feels nostalgic for me and makes me miss dallas. Very nice young guy at the cash register. Kool aid is delectable. The fried shrimp was nice and juicy however i'm not the biggest fan of the seasoning they used on the batter. The cocktail sauce is phenomenal and I could drink that. The fish was solid. Fried okra was not my favorite due to the seasoning on the batter. The hot sauce clearly tastes homemade and is fantastic. The mac and cheese was solid as well... my boyfriend said it was one of the best he has had."

"Hit the 3 year anniversary and Whip my soul is still rocking. Always busy when I go in.", the staff is hustling. It can take a bit long after you order but i'd rather that then lower the quality just to get it out faster. Happy 3 years and hope for many more! Don't give up on cooking from the heart!"

"We were back at Whip My Soul again. Antonio Echols, the owner was at the restaurant along with his daughter that manages the cash register. We had not seen either one for the last few visits. We love their latest renovation yielding more space. Another absolutely fabulous meal at Whip My Soul! My husband had his standard 3 wings, waffle fries and collard greens. It's a ritual for me to taste test his fries. Just want to ensure that they are perfect for him to eat or I like eating them and feel for guilty my own order. ok...you choose! The wings were so big that he only ate two and took one to go. I might have taste tested the wing at home. Ok...I ate it. I had baked chicken with cheesy grits and sweet potatoes. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious. In addition, we go the pineapple coconut cake. OMG...so good! It was dense, sweet and the pineapple sweet and a little crunchy. The Whip My Soul Crew now have branded shirts. Love it...on front "Whip My Soul, Ya'll Aint Ready" on the back, "Come on back for the cheesy mac." Until next time..."
